Travel to school

Our school is situated in the centre of Trapani, so it is very easy to reach. The bstation, the railway station and the harbour are all close to the school. Many students come from the outskirts of Trapani or from other towns and villages around Trapani and come to school by train, bus and by ferry-boat from the nearby islands. But the scooter is the most used means of transport among the students because here the weather is always sunny!!!!!!

Timetable

Total weekly hours 35, distributed in the following way:

4 hours of Chemistry, 2 hours of Philosophy, 3 hours of History, 5 hours of Spanish, 2 hours of Art, 3 hours of Mathematics, 3 hours of Latin, 4 hours of Italian, 3 hours of French, 3 hours of English, 2 hours of P.E., 1 hour of Religious Education.

School times and break

Our school is open six days a week: from Monday to Saturday. Lessons start at 8. 20. Some hours last 50 minutes, others 60 minutes. Every day from 11 to 11.15 we have a short break, during which we can relax, walk in the school courtyard and get something to eat and drink. Generally lessons finish at 1.50 p.m.

In the afternoon we are free because we don't have any lessons but we can take part in other activities such as:

I. sport activities (volley ball; basket ball; bowling, etc.)

II. showing of films in Italian and English

III. projects for young people

IV. theatrical company

V. supplementary courses for students in difficulty etc...

Holidays and calendar

Our school year starts on 21st September and finishes on 10th June. It's divided into two terms each of four months: the first starts in September and finishes in January; the second starts in February and finishes in June.

During the year there are the following holidays: 1st November (All Saints' Day), 8th December (The Immaculate Conception), Christmas holidays (from 23rd December until 7th January), Easter holidays, about 7 days, 25th April Liberation Day (World War II) and 1st May (Labour day ).

The school year ends the second week of June for the summer holidays and opens again in September; so the summer holidays will last from 10th June to 21st September (first day of next school year).

Meals and snacks

During the break, from 11.00 to 11.15, the students have the possibility to buy snacks at the vending machines (such as: coke, orange juice, crisps, chocolate, croissants, etc...). At lunchtime all the students go home since there isn't a canteen at school and there are no lessons after 01.50 p.m.

Clubs

In our school there aren't any clubs but sometimes many students get together to organize lots of activities: school theatre, concerts, exhibitions..

Last year we put on a very famous Italian musical “Aggiungi un posto a tavola”: which was a great success !!!!!

Every so often, during the monthly school assembly, many students perform a concert.

Every year, at Christmas time, on the last school day we organize a charity exhibition with the sale of home-made cakes and biscuits.

Class Trips

In our town the language school has a very important role, because tourism is one of our main resources, it also gives us a good linguistic competence which can be used immediately after getting our high school diploma.

In the first and in the second year we go on class trips around our island, Sicily.

During the next 3 years, the school organizes stages or cultural exchanges with other European countries like Spain, France, Austria, Germany, England and America too.

We love doing exchanges with other European schools because they not only give us the opportunity to get to know other countries and other cultures, but also we can test our linguistic competence.

System of marks

We have oral and written tests. The teacher gives us marks on a scale of 1-10.

For example 2 is a terrible mark, 6 is the minimum pass mark and 10 is the best mark. Under 5 is a real disaster !!!!!

Teachers base their marks according to the following criteria:

I. the students' knowledge of the subject

II. communication ability

III. frequency

IV.degree of participation.

At the end of each school term we get a report-card with the marks in all the subjects.

Final qualification

Each of the three branches in our school offers a variety of possibilities as to the choice of University courses.

Each branch lasts 5 years offering the students a good cultural grounding for their future lives.

At the end of the 5th year students achieve a High School “Diploma” after sitting for a written and oral test in all the subjects. This qualification enables them to follow University courses.
